Summer garden: tips and tricks

The summer garden is the most beautiful of the year, lush and full of colorful delights. The pleasure of picking tomatoes, aubergines, courgettes and bell pepper, directly from your own garden, is priceless. And the daily work that, inevitably also the smallest vegetable garden requires, is gratified by the awareness of having fresh and tasty seasonal vegetables.

The garden and gardening are two totally different realities: managing a vegetable garden means supporting the seasons and, above all, the climate in which one lives. In hot countries, it is possible to plant summer vegetables in advance. With the winter vegetable garden, living in a warm place, my planting times are lengthened.

How to grow your own summer garden?

The first rule is to choose the varieties suitable for local climatic conditions.

Before sowing or planting, the soil must be well worked, adding a good quantity of organic substance such as compost or manure fertilizer.

Space and depth are other essential rules for growing healthy and lush vegetable plants. If the vegetables are close, they will produce little. If the seedlings are too deep, the stems may rot.

The soil must be kept moist. Before watering again the soil must dry. The automatic irrigation system is the best solution to have an efficient vegetable garden.

Weeds are a not indifferent problem, if neglected. You have to eliminate them manually and work the soil to reduce their development.

To protect vegetables from possible pests, you can use organic products that do not damage the plant.

Certain vegetables, such as courgettes and bell pepper, need to grow sulfur, a natural pesticide. Furthermore, many of them also need calcium. In this case, an ancient and effective remedy consists in breaking the shells of the eggs that provide a lot of calcium to the plants.

Chamomile seeds are ideal for sprouting plants and are excellent antifungals.

The ash of the chimneys is ideal to prevent the formation of pests.
