I try to treat the skin with natural products both cosmetic and with preparations made by me that contain herbs, olive oil or yogurt.
In this site, you find some tips for the DIY beauty routine. This is because wellbeing is not just about food.
In recent years, attention to food has become not only a fade but also a necessity. The considerable increase in food allergies and intolerances, obesity, diabetes and other diseases, related to an unsuitable diet, have contributed to a greater awareness in the selection of less refined, preferably organic ingredients.
But our attention should also concern the choice of products for daily care that are rich of harmful ingredients, especially because they are used several times a day. Preservatives, silicones, parabens are just some of the unclean substances that we absorb every day, more or less unconsciously, and which are present in all beauty preparations and cleansings for the face and body.
Unless they are certified organic, cosmetic products (even the best and even those sold in pharmacies) are prepared with petroleum derivatives. So, they are toxic, especially for our hormonal system. The World Health Organization has confirmed that minimum quantities are sufficient to alter the endocrine system.
Although, the European Union has been discussing the need to eliminate oil derivatives from the cosmetics industry the problem remains unsolved.
What to avoid:
Phthalates are a family of chemicals that derive from petroleum, used as plasticizing agents but also as solvents. They are the most widespread plasticizers in the world. They are in nail polish, in perfume, in cosmetic creams, shampoos but also in food containers.
Parabens are widely used preservatives in cosmetics. Yet, European studies have shown that these substances are not disposed of by the body. On the contrary, they are accumulated and appear to be in close correlation with the onset of certain cancers, including those of the breast and skin.
Powerful antibacterial, present in toothpastes, mouthwashes and soaps for feminine hygiene. American studies have shown a relationship between this substance and the onset of neoplasia in the liver and intestine.
These products create problems only if the use is daily and prolonged over time.
The debate on the topic is very complex and this is not the right place. My intent is only to provide small indications on why and how to avoid certain substances, preferring ever more natural choices.
Why choose organic products:
Avoid ingredients recognized as potential endocrine disruptors and choose natural, sustainable, organic products.
They do not contain petroleum derivatives, silicones and synthetic chemical compounds. They have a greater quantity of pure active ingredients and are environmentally and animals friendly.
Of course, it is better to choose the most serious companies whose products really contain all the required requisites. For this, it is good to read the labels and know the company’s history.
