Spicy tofu balls are a really tasty idea to make tofu inviting.
Tofu is a little-loved food in western countries. In Asia, it is one of the main foods, source of so many noble proteins and nutrients. Tofu is rich in vegetable protein, Omega 3 and 6, iron. Its flavonoids protect the heart and fight the action of free radicals. According to some research, the second tofu reduces the incidence of some pathologies such as Alzheimer’s.
The quality of Asian tofu is difficult to have in other areas of the world where, often, soy (of which tofu is made) is genetically modified. According to the Asian country where tofu is used, it changes its name and variety. In the East, the choice between the various types of tofu is very varied.
For a really healthy product it is important to choose organic tofu, produced from soy not genetically modified.
Spicy tofu balls are made with oregano, thyme and dried chili. These beautiful aromatic herbs are special and delicious ingredients. I love to use them when I prepare these delicious tofu balls. They are perfect with seasonal organic salad and also ideal to make spaghetti with vegan balls sauce.
Spicy tofu balls: Ingredients
Makes about 10 balls
150 g (5 oz) organic firm tofu
5 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
Pinch of sea salt
1 tsp dry oregano
1 tsp dry thyme
½ tsp dry chili
Spicy tofu balls: Method
- Combine the tofu, 3 tbsp olive oil, salt, oregano, thyme and chili in a mixing bowl. Roll into balls.
- Roll in bread crumbs and fry in preheated skillet with 1 tbsp olive oil, cooking until slightly to medium brown on all sides.
- Serve hot.
